Nothing is more beautiful than the Bougainvillea scattered among the landscapes of Ventura County. This plant which is native to South and Central America is the perfect solution for colorful drought resistant specimens in either your private homes or commercial properties.

It comes in a variety of colors and can be pruned to simulate a small tree, a scrub or even ground cover.

Remember it likes the stress of drought, so do not water often, as you will stop  the flowers from blooming.

Do I Have to Give up my Green Lawn to go Green

Some of my friends are tearing up their beautiful green front lawns and replacing the lawn with native plants. And of course, like all converts, they are trying to get me to do the same -to go green. Here is some of their logic. If you are paying $100 a month to have the front lawn mowed and then another fifty per month to water the lawn and more for the fertilizers and pest control? You are paying $1,800 per year for lawn. Actually you will be able to replace the lawn for about the costs of one year of lawn maintenance costs.
After visiting one of the local nurseries that feature native plants, I am beginning to be sold. I think after this non-winter we had, it has got me thinking seriously about it. That is as long as I can have color and not a desert look which I do not care for at all. I live on the Ventura Coastline and that is the type of landscape I enjoy.

This is primarily an agricultural area consisting of orange and lemon orchards. It is filled with old country dirt roads lined with old oak trees meandering through the area. The small downtown area of Piru has recently been modernized. Many old historic mansions are dotted throughout the town.

This is the gateway to Lake Piru, a popular recreational destination for the people of Ventura County and Los Angeles County. Port Hueneme is surrounded by Oxnard,  the Naval Base Ventura County and the Santa Barbara Channel. The Port itself is the only deep water harbor between San Pedro and the San Francisco Bay area. It is the U.S. Port of Entry for the California central coast region. It also serves International businesses and ocean carriers from the Pacific Rim and Europe. This harbor ranks among the top seaports in California and employs hundreds of Oxnard residents along with many in Ventura County.

There are approximately 22,000 that enjoy beautiful seaside homes and condominiums at affordable prices. Listed below are many of the condominuiums complexes with great features, including senior housing:
    Anacapa View is a gated condominium community. The residents have wonderful views of the ocean and they are situated by the sea. This well established community of condos was built in 1974. Most units have been nicely renovated. The complex is near a Park, schools and stores.

    Surfside II Condominiums all have a white water view and unobstructed view from the Port Hueneme Harbor to Point Magoo. Along with the island of Anacapa. This is the complex to choose if you want a beautiful view of the ocean.

    Surfside III condominium complex is a three story building, with numerous one story condos on each floor. Many of the units have an ocean view. All the condos are in an easy walking distance of the beach. These are great condos for your weekend getaways.

The Channel Islands National Park lies just off shore as does a National Marine Sanctuary. The Los Padres National Forest is found in Ventura’s foothills while two of California’s longest flowing open rivers help to form the city’s boundaries.

Midtown Real Estate

Midtown is a bungalow style community developed back in the 1920’s. Most of the houses are small Cape Cod or Spanish style homes. Many of the homes have wood floors and all have a lot of character. This neighborhood is a very “in-demand” due to its convenient location close to the Beach area and Harbor.

Hillside Real Estate
These neighborhoods have beautiful Ocean and Mountain view properties. There is an ambiance of country living in these hillside homes. The houses are mostly large traditional Spanish style, some having as many as 5 bedrooms.

Fillmore

fillmore streetThis quaint, but quickly developing town is East of Ventura on the 126 highway . Originally an agricultural area, now neighborhoods for families are being developed against the beautiful backdrop of the Santa Paula mountains with orange groves dotting the hills. Homes here are still reasonable in price while the rural nature of the area has not been lost.

Santa Paula, and Ojai are close by. All of these areas are inland from Ventura and can offer affordable alternatives and rural living with hillside homes, view homes, and close knit neighborhoods.
