Santa Paula Getting its Own Sewer Plant

The city of Santa Paula residents will no longer be paying the second highest sewer rates in the state. The Santa Paula City Council unanimously voted to purchase a waste water treatment plant for almost $71.0 million.

The vote came recently at their regular Monday meeting, and will save residents hundreds of dollars a year. The actual savings will depend on the interest rate of the municipal bonds used for the purchase. The savings could be as high as $450 annually on residential sewer bills.

Different proposals have been brought up in the past but were not successful. Santa Paula residents pay the second highest rates in the State of California at the present time. The price to purchase the waste water treatment plant will be $70.8 million when finalized.
